Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead East Coweta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jax Bowles, who threw for 244 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.6 yards per attempt. A healthy portion of that aerial production (88 yards to be exact) went to Walter Maestre, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something East Coweta proved: they limited Denmark to a paltry 1.5 yards per carry. The Indians' ground attack was stronger, having averaged five.
Meanwhile, Walton didn't have too much breathing room in their game against McEachern on Friday, but they still walked away with a 28-24 victory.
Walton's win came from a few key players East Coweta will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Christion Peacock, who threw for 188 yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one score on the ground. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in September.
Walton's defense made their presence known, laying out Calvin Pittman Jr five times. In that department, William Ruddell was the leader with two sacks. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine. Todd Haley was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Special teams played a big role in the game for Walton, adding 14 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Mario Dixon, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Walton now has a winning record of 6-5. As for East Coweta, their record is now 4-7.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. East Coweta has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 148.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Walton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 200.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
