WEEKLY WRAP
There was an in-state flavor to the week’s commitments, with four electing to remain home.
Georgia kept Donte Williams (6-9 F/Lithonia, Ga./Miller Grove) within the Peach State over interest from Alabama-Birmingham, Auburn, Central Florida, East Carolina, Georgia State and Virginia Commonwealth. He helped lead his team to back-to-back Class AAAA state titles and was also named Player of the Year.
Michigan extended a scholarship offer to Class A First Team All-Stater Jon Horford (6-9 F/Grand Ledge, Mich.) and he accepted over California and Providence.
Oklahoma will have the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year in uniform next year with Tyler Neal (6-6 F/Oklahoma City, Ok./Putnam City West) choosing the Sooners right after receiving the offer.
Penn State brings home Tre Bowman (6-4 G/York, Pa./Oakdale, Conn./St. Thomas More), who spent a year away as a starter at prep school playing alongside four other Division I players and eventually choose the Nittany Lions over Drexel, Minnesota and South Florida.
The annual college basketball coaching carousel also showed its effect with three prospects this week.
Seton Hall scored a visit and then a verbal commitment from Anali Okoloji (6-8 F/Brooklyn, N.Y./Sarasota, Fla./Impact Academy). He was a previous target of the new Seton Hall staff during their time at Iona. Okoloji also had interest from Ole Miss, Providence, Rice and Tulsa.
George Mason has a pledge from Bryon Allen (6-2 G/Upper Marlboro, Md./Oakdale, Conn./St. Thomas More), who considered Boston College, Houston, Oregon and Siena until coaching changes came at all four in recent weeks. Allen also had interest from Providence and SMU. He was once committed to West Virginia before making the move from Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) to prep school in New England for his senior year.
Central Florida landed Jarvis Davis (6-1 G/Columbia, S.C./Chatham, Va./Hargrave Military Academy), who was previously committed to Charlotte before its recent coaching change. The new UCF staff had recruited Davis while they were at Marshall. Davis was first committed to Louisiana Tech out of high school at Ridge View (Columbia, S.C.) before heading to prep school this past season. He chose UCF over Nebraska and Texas Tech.
