Bishop O'Connell has gone a perfect 10-0 against Paul VI recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Knights will take on the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bishop O'Connell 0.2, Paul VI 0.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Bishop O'Connell took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against James Madison, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Knights never let the Warhawks get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.
The result came thanks to Ella Fletcher's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up seven Ks.
Meanwhile, Paul VI faced Isle of Wight Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Chargers with a sharp 8-2 win. Fans of the Panthers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Faith Colligan made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alex Berg and Ashley Robinson did most of the damage at the plate: Berg went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Robinson went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Sullivan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Paul VI was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Bishop O'Connell's record now sits at 3-1. As for Paul VI, their record is now 7-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bishop O'Connell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Paul VI struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Bishop O'Connell's way against Paul VI in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Bishop O'Connell made off with a 13-4 victory. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
