The Cocalico Eagles will face off against the Donegal Indians at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Cocalico made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Manheim Central, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Eagles fell just short of the Barons by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Barons: they've now lost eight in a row.
Cocalico saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Hoffert, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. That RBI was Hoffert's first of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Donegal ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Governor Mifflin 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Indians sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Caleb Rupp made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Christian Miller was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Cocalico's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Donegal, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cocalico has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Donegal struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Cocalico might still be hurting after the 17-0 loss they got from Donegal in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
