The Young Women's Leadership Academy Cardinals suffered their biggest loss since November 30, 2023 on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 60-23 loss at the hands of Cuero. Young Women's Leadership Academy has not had much luck with Cuero recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Young Women's Leadership Academy still got an impressive performance from Gabriela Santos, who scored ten points. That was a full 43.5% of Young Women's Leadership Academy's points, marking the 20th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Cuero was led to victory by Lainee Ballin and Aubrey Bowles. Ballin scored 13 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds, while Bowles almost dropped a triple-double on 22 points, 13 rebounds, and nine blocks. Bowles hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Addie Chilek, who scored nine points.
Young Women's Leadership Academy dropped their record down to 4-17 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.8 points per game. As for Cuero, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 28-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Young Women's Leadership Academy will square off against John F. Kennedy at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. John F. Kennedy has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12. As for Cuero, they will head out on the road to take on Fox Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fox Tech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1137th, while Cuero is ranked 233rd).
