After flying high against the Churchill Bulldogs last Monday, the Whitman Vikings came back down to earth. Whitman took a 46-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Walter Johnson. Whitman was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Walter Johnson apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Walter Johnson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elizabeth Martin, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Alexander, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Whitman's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Walter Johnson, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Whitman is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Wootton at 5:30 p.m. on February 13th. Hopefully Whitman is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Maryland (they are ranked 50th, while Wootton is ranked 139th). As for Walter Johnson, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Quince Orchard at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Walter Johnson focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
