The Esparto Spartans struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (the Vacaville Christian Falcons had 17 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Esparto ended up on the wrong side of a rough 61-38 walloping at the hands of Vacaville Christian. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Esparto of the 60-40 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the loss, Esparto still got an impressive performance from Antonio Seastrunk Jr., who scored 23 points along with three steals. Seastrunk Jr. has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Andre Oliver was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Vacaville Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brian Laxamana out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Laxamana hasn't dropped below 11 rebounds for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Dylan Eddings, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Esparto's loss dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Vacaville Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season.
Esparto will be playing in front of their home fans against Golden Sierra at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Golden Sierra will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Esparto surely won't give up without a fight. As for Vacaville Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge Highlands at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Vacaville Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
