The West Central Trojans will take on the Caston Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. West Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
West Central will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Thursday, then bounced right back against Lafayette Jefferson on Saturday. The Trojans blew past the Bronchos 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Jalie Glasford spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Sydney Mellon and Brooklynn Lattimore did most of the damage at the plate: Mellon went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Lattimore went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two doubles gave Mellon a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elly Sparks, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Caston lost 13-6 to Northfield on Friday. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kylee Logan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
West Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Caston, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.
Caston's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. It's a different story for Caston, though, as they've only averaged .242. Will they be able to contain West Central's hitters?
West Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Caston in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
