The Newfane Panthers had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of West Seneca East by a score of 38-35.
West Seneca East found their leader in underclassman Melanie Marcezin, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 10 rebounds. Marcezin hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Newfane's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for West Seneca East, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
After both having extra time off, Newfane and Wilson will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. West Seneca East will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lake Shore at 6:30 p.m. on December 19th.
