The Dunbar Tigers suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of South Fort Myers by a score of 57-54. Dunbar was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as South Fort Myers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Dunbar saw an underclassman step up: Hezekiah Jones scored 20 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jones has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Garyan Burger, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Fort Myers to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lil Darius Sotomayor, who scored 11 points along with two steals. Sotomayor is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Ja?mahdi Ward was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Dunbar's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for South Fort Myers, their win bumped their record up to 7-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dunbar won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Riverdale at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th. One thing working in Riverdale's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matchups. As for South Fort Myers, South Fort Myers and Neumann will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Neumann is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
