Sprayberry had won seven straight home games dating back to last season and Jaden Duckett did his part to make it eight on Friday. The Yellow Jackets took down the Etowah Eagles 42-24 thanks in part to Duckett, who rushed for 152 yards and one TD on only five carries, and also threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 passes. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run.
Sprayberry's defense made their presence known, laying out Zeke Douglass. four times. Gabe Clarke was especially locked on to Etowah's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Eagles' side was Saiky Minnifield, who picked up a sack, made 11 total tackles, and defended one pass.
Despite the loss, Etowah still got an impressive performance from Douglass, who rushed for 106 yards and a pair of scores, and also threw for 156 yards and one TD. A healthy portion of that aerial production (101 yards to be exact) went to Walker Hughes.
Sprayberry's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Etowah, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sprayberry will challenge Kennesaw Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Etowah, they will face off against Campbell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
