If the Walton Raiders were feeling good off their 68-31 takedown of the Osborne Cardinals last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Walton was beaten by Cherokee 80-53 on Friday. Walton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-25.
Despite the loss, Walton saw an underclassman step up: Layla Varghese scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Nicholson, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Walton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Cherokee, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-6.
Walton will be playing in front of their home fans against Kennesaw Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kennesaw Mountain is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses. As for Cherokee, they will head out on the road to take on North Cobb at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Cobb is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
