Troy and the Hornets are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Troy Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Wellsboro Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Troy sitting on 17 straight victories and the Hornets on four.
Troy stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 72-32 victory over Lewisburg on the road. Given Troy's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Green Dragons are ranked 406th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Wellsboro ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They beat Mansfield by the very same score they won with last week: 56-52.
Troy's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.1 points per game. As for Wellsboro, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Troy strolled past the Hornets in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 57-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Troy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
