After flying high against the All Saints' Academy Saints last Monday, the Zephyrhills Christian Academy Warriors came back down to earth. Zephyrhills Christian Academy took a serious blow against Excel Christian Academy on Friday, falling 65-20. While losing is never fun, Zephyrhills Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 562nd, while Excel Christian Academy is ranked 243rd).
Excel Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Soleil DeJesus, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and five assists. DeJesus hasn't dropped below 15 points for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Anyla Parker, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 19 rebounds.
Zephyrhills Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Excel Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 11-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Zephyrhills Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Excel Christian Academy and Haines City will face off at 5:30 a.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Haines City is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.5 points per game.
