D1 District 10 (8 Man) recap October 8, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Sutherland, who defeated 61st ranked Maxwell, 56-44. Tyler Fear threw for 76 yards and ran for 321 yards during the win.
Adding to the longest winning streak in D1 District 10 (8 Man) this week, Hemingford beat Stapleton/McPherson County 78-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Bobcats.
Matthew Wood threw for 63 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 3-3 with 0 interceptions.
Fear was a force in the backfield as the Sailors beat the Wildcats.
Fear was a passing and rushing force as Sutherland defeated Maxwell.
Collin Fleecs was the best receiver in the league this week as Joe Kaup's team beat Ryan Jones' team. Fleecs tallied 1 reception for 38 yards. Brook Bloomstedt helped Sutherland's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 38 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Fleecs. The Sutherland star has 12 catches for 232 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Hemingford takes on second place Sutherland. Last week, Hemingford defeated the Cyclones, while the Sailors beat the Wildcats.
Next week's game between Jordan Haas' team and Paxton will feature a good passing match up as Wood will test his arm against Cody Blackwell's defensive ability. Hemingford's Wood has thrown for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns this year, while Blackwell has racked up 2 interceptions for the Tigers.
Paxton was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in D1 District 10 (8 Man). Mike Morland's team beat Morrill 50-20 earlier in the week.
