It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but People's Prep ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They slipped by American History 56-55. The win was all the more spectacular given People's Prep's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 319th, while American History is ranked 159th).
Several Bald Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ahmad Davis, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 26 rebounds. Those 26 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Edgar De Los Santos, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, American History were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
The victory was the third in a row for People's Prep, bringing their record for this year to 3-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for American History, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. People's Prep will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on University Academy Charter at 4:30 p.m. on January 19th. As for American History, they will head out on the road to face off against Bard at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
