Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Saegertown

Saegertown came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Jamestown Muskies 17-0. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Panthers also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2016.

William Shaffer was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Wyatt Burchill and Blake Burchill did most of the damage at the plate: Wyatt scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Blake scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases Blake has posted since back in May of 2024. Demarcus Manning was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Saegertown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive matches.

Saegertown pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Jamestown, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Saegertown will challenge rival Cambridge Springs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Jamestown is set to square off against their familiar foe Rocky Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
