5A Region III District 18 recap Oct. 23, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Eisenhower, who took down 81st ranked Alief Taylor, 22-17.
Caleb Cormier of Alief Elsik ran for the longest rushing play in 5A Region III District 18 this season against Aldine last week. Cormier's team defeated the Mustangs as he sprinted for 63 yards on the play and finished with 143 in all.
Alief Elsik's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jimmy Arvie threw for 55 yards and Malcolm Washington had 43 yards receiving. Ishmael Zamora helped Alief Elsik's passing attack out by catching two balls for 25 yards.
Alief Elsik's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Caleb Bedford has thrown for 528 yards and two touchdowns this season, while Casey Williams has 23 catches for 397 yards. Cormier leads the league in rushing with 443 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bill Barron's team takes on MacArthur. At the moment, the Rams are in first, while the Generals are in third.
Alief Elsik was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to first in 5A Region III District 18. The Rams beat Aldine 35-28 earlier in the week.
