The Academy Wildcats's five-game losing streak came to an end on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Timnath 55-52. That's another feather in the cap for The Academy, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
The Academy was led to victory by Gavin Massler and Trey Boychuk. Massler scored 17 points, while Boychuk scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. The matchup was Boychuk's seventh in a row with at least ten points.
Several Cubs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tanner Mock, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Max Roselle, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Timnath were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
The Academy's win ended a 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-7. As for Timnath, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. The Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Jefferson Academy at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. Jefferson Academy will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Timnath, they will head out on the road to face off against Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
