The Calhoun County Saints's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight defeat. They fell 46-34 to Hunter-Kinard-Tyler. Calhoun County has struggled against the Trojans recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Calhoun County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Takara Brown, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Raniya Tyler was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals and two blocks.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hunter-Kinard-Tyler to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tilayzia Youmans, who scored 17 points along with six steals. Youmans hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Akeira Blue, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds.
Calhoun County's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7. As for Hunter-Kinard-Tyler, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun County will face off against the Fighting Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Blackville-Hilda focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Thursday. Hunter-Kinard-Tyler will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Wagener-Salley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while the Trojans are ranked 116th).
