Basketball Recap: Wildwood's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

If Wildwood was riding high fresh off their 75-28 takedown of Keystone Heights last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildwood Wildcats fell 77-70 to the East Ridge Knights on Monday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wildcats came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while the Knights are ranked 625th).

Despite the loss, Wildwood still got an impressive performance from Traeston Armstrong, who went 9 for 18 on his way to 29 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Armstrong a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Ashton Wilson, who posted ten points and seven assists.

East Ridge got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Joshua Joehill out in front who went 10 of 21 en route to 24 points and five rebounds. Joehill is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Isayah Smith was another key player, going 8 for 15 on his way to 19 points and five steals.

Wildwood moved to 18-5 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for East Ridge, their record is now 7-16.

Wildwood will head out on the road to face off against First Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wildwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully First Academy likes a good challenge. As for East Ridge, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Tenoroc at 7:30 p.m.
