2A District 5 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Haskell's Alex Wheeland recorded the longest rushing play in 2A District 5 this season in his game against Holdenville last week. Wheeland scampered for 77 yards on the play and finished with 149 on the day as his team bested the Wolverines.
Okemah extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Meeker, 52-25. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
The Bulldogs' dynamic duo of Jesse Weaver and Nick Cagle proved tough for Okemah to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Weaver threw for 60 yards and one touchdown and Cagle had 108 yards receiving. Michael Nolen helped Meeker's passing attack out by catching one ball for 10 yards.
Meeker's Jake Standlee and Cagle have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Standlee has thrown for 517 yards this season, while Cagle, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has nine catches for 269 yards. Haskell's Wheeland leads the league in rushing yards with 734.
A big matchup in 2A District 5 this week will be when Mike Hedge's team takes on Stroud. As it stands, the Bulldogs are in fourth, while the Tigers are in first.
Stroud took down Mounds 60-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
