Section 6 B - North recap October 8, 2013
Lewiston-Porter moved up to 300 from 388 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Section 6 B - North. The Lancers climbed the ranks as a result of beating Medina/Webber 31-30.
Burgard/Math Science Tech Prep at Seneca added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Amherst Central, 36-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Bulldogs.
Ed Wolfe was a force in the backfield as Albion defeated Maryvale.
John Warne threw for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Wolfe provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Purple Eagles topped the Flyers. Wolfe's key target this week was Trey Hart, who caught 4 passes for 85 yards.
Warne and Wolfe gave Albion a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Kyle Smith also contributed to the rushing game with 42 yards on the ground.
The Mustangs' Jason Hellwig and Kyle Barna led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Hellwig has thrown for 824 yards this season, while Barna has 18 catches for 314 yards. Wolfe from Tony Osburn's team leads the league in rushing with 663 yards.
The top two teams in Section 6 B - North will face off this week when first place Burgard/Math Science Tech Prep at Seneca takes on second place Cheektowaga. Last week, Burgard/Math Science Tech Prep at Seneca defeated the Tigers, while Cheektowaga bested Barker/Royalton-Hartland.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Warriors take on Jason Kolb's team. Cheektowaga has allowed 52 points this season, while the Bulldogs have given up 19. Mike Fatta's team allowed 16 points last week as it beat the Raiders.
Maryvale fell to the Purple Eagles 39-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Andrew Donius was a bright spot for Jeffrey Buccieri's team, as he ran for 62 yards and caught 2 passes for 35 yards in the loss.
