Rumson-Fair Haven had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Keansburg Titans 13-1 on Monday. The Bulldogs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Titans, too.
Lilee Martinelli made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Martinelli was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Caitlin (Cate) Bush was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Riley Berry, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rumson-Fair Haven will head out to challenge Neptune at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Keansburg, they are headed away from home for the first time to face off against STEMCivics at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
