Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, a fact the Marie Philip Galloping Ghosts proved on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 49-28 margin over Lexington School for the Deaf. Given Marie Philip's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked fifth in Massachusetts, while Lexington School for the Deaf is ranked 141st in New York), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marie Philip can attribute much of their success to Xavier DeLeon, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Riebe, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Defeat or not, Lexington School for the Deaf got some senior leadership from Hunter Larsen who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and Cristhian De La Cruz who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Marie Philip's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Lexington School for the Deaf, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marie Philip is on the road again on Monday and play against Commonwealth at 3:30 p.m. on December 4th. Lexington School for the Deaf will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pennsylvania School For The Deaf at 5:15 p.m. on December 12th.
