Bethany is 1-7 against Piedmont Classical since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bethany Wolves' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Piedmont Classical Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Bethany focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Bethany didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Cornerstone Charter, but they still walked away with a 34-30 victory. That's two games straight that Bethany has won by exactly four points.
Bethany relied on the efforts of Braelyn Pennix, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, and Mattie Southard, who scored 18 points along with five steals and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Hattiejo Hopper, who scored four points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Piedmont Classical scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They really took it to College Prep & Leadership Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 71-40 win on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Piedmont Classical has posted since December 1, 2023.
It was another big night for Ge'Kayla Goins, who scored 28 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tamia Carter, who scored 17 points.
Bethany has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-13 record this season. As for Piedmont Classical, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Bethany have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 20.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Piedmont Classical struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 27.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Bethany skirted past Piedmont Classical 55-53 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bethany since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
