Basketball Recap: Calvary Chapel Academy Comes Up Short

Calvary Chapel Academy lost against Merritt Island Christian back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Calvary Chapel Academy Eagles took a 52-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Merritt Island Christian Cougars.

When it comes to explaining why Calvary Chapel Academy lost, don't look at Caleb Welsh. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 16 on his way to 25 points. The contest was Welsh's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ephram Welsh, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Merritt Island Christian was led to victory by Trey Nevad and Connor Angstadt. Nevad almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards, while Angstadt went 7 of 14 on his way to 17 points and five steals. Nevad has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last seven times he's played. Carter Stevenson was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Calvary Chapel Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Merritt Island Christian, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvary Chapel Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Synergy Magnet K12 at 5:30 p.m. on January 21st. As for Merritt Island Christian, they will face off against Orlando Science at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
