Lancaster and Middlesex are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Chargers at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
If Lancaster beats Middlesex with 26 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Everything went the Red Devils' way against Nandua last Tuesday as they made off with a 26-10 win. The victory was nothing new for the Red Devils as they're now sitting on three straight.
Ayla Saunders was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. Kelsey Bishoff was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances.
Lancaster always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .837. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, while Middlesex put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Colonial Beach. The Chargers blew past the Drifters 13-0. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Drifters: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Cheyenne Musick, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carly Jessie, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Lancaster pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.7 runs over those games. As for Middlesex, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Middlesex's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lancaster hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .478. It's a different story for Middlesex, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Lancaster's hitters?
Lancaster took their win against Middlesex when the teams last played last Saturday by a conclusive 10-3 score. Will the Red Devils repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
