The Douglass Hurricanes will be home for the holidays to greet Academy of the Americas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Douglass' favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Academy of the Americas has been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Last Tuesday, Douglass strolled past East English Village Prep with points to spare, taking the game 58-43.
Meanwhile, Academy of the Americas was beaten by Central 70-17 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Academy of the Americas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 577th, while Central is ranked 30th).
The losing side was boosted by Cristian Gutierrez, who scored ten points.
Douglass' victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Academy of the Americas, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Everything came up roses for Douglass against Academy of the Americas in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 91-22 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Academy of the Americas' Shaniel De la Rosa, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Douglass to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
