Luverne is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Zion Chapel last Thursday as Luverne made off with a 41-20 win. The Tigers pushed the score to 34-14 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rebels had little chance of recovering from.
Luverne found their leader in underclassman Elliott Harris, who rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also picked up 147 receiving yards and a touchdown. Harris showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 69 yards. Another player making a difference was Kane Smith, who threw for 232 yards and a touchdown on only 13 passes.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Luverne was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 247 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 195 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Montgomery Academy made easy work of Northside Methodist Academy on Friday and carried off a 41-16 victory. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Knights are ranked 352nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Montgomery Academy found their leader in underclassman Reid Mcbride, who threw for 236 yards and three touchdowns while completing 92.9% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Mcbride's posted a season-high passer rating of 171.1. D.J. Vinson was another key player, picking up 106 receiving yards and a touchdown.
