Basketball Recap: IDEA Riverview Takes a Loss

If IDEA Riverview was feeling good fresh off their 59-38 takedown of IDEA Weslaco Pike last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The IDEA Riverview Rockets were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 59-58 to the Santa Rosa Warriors. The Rockets have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Juan Vazquez and Oziel Escobedo certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Vazquez posted 21 points, while Escobedo scored 18 points. Escobedo's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Manuel Guerra, who earned seven points.

IDEA Riverview's loss dropped their record down to 8-10. As for Santa Rosa, they pushed their record up to 8-12 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

IDEA Riverview has already played their next game (against IDEA Frontier College Prep), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Santa Rosa will host Raymondville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Rosa knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Raymondville likes a good challenge.
