The Elite Scholars Academy Royal Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 60-47 loss to Callaway. Elite Scholars Academy has not had much luck with Callaway recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Elite Scholars Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Xavier Charles-jones, who scored ten points. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for him. Jerel Clark was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with nine rebounds.
Callaway got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was DeShun Coleman out in front who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. The game was Coleman's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Landon Thomas, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Elite Scholars Academy's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-9. As for Callaway, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elite Scholars Academy will square off against Columbia at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Columbia knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Elite Scholars Academy likes a good challenge. As for Callaway, they will head out on the road to face off against Eagle's Landing Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Eagle's Landing Christian Academy is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
