The Okeene Whippets are on the road again on Friday and play against the Velma-Alma Comets. Okeene has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 244 points over their last five contests.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Okeene walked away with it. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 40-30 on Friday. That's two games straight that Okeene has won by exactly ten points.
Meanwhile, Velma-Alma put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on Drumright with a sharp 50-30 win. Winning may never get old, but Velma-Alma sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Velma-Alma's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Slade Strickland, who rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns while completing 79.3% of his passes. Strickland was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards. Another player making a difference was Langsten Walker, who picked up 187 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Okeene has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Velma-Alma, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Okeene was dealt a bruising 70-20 loss at the hands of Velma-Alma in their previous meeting back in November of 2019. Can Okeene avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
