The Providence-St. Mel Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight defeat. They suffered a rough 77-57 defeat at the hands of IC Catholic Prep. While losing is never fun, Providence-St. Mel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 515th, while IC Catholic Prep is ranked 229th).
Despite the loss, Providence-St. Mel still got an impressive performance from Gerald Davis, who scored 23 points. It was the first time this season that Davis scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Robert Hughes Jr., who scored 12 points.
Providence-St. Mel has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 14 of their last 15 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-18 record this season. As for IC Catholic Prep, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-13.
Providence-St. Mel will head out on the road to face off against Uplift at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Providence-St. Mel is coming into the game with eight straight defeats on the road, meaning Uplift will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for IC Catholic Prep, they will be playing at home against Chicago Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. IC Catholic Prep has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 216 points over their last three contests.
