Middleburg was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Clay on Wednesday. The Broncos put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 17-1 win. Considering the Broncos have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Cloey Ballinger was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Ballinger was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Middleburg got a massive performance out of KK Hagan, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Hagan a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madisyn Strickland, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Middleburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clay only posted an OBP of .318.
Middleburg is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Clay, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-10.
