Softball Recap: Magoffin County Takes a Loss

Magoffin County dropped their record down to 9-15 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Paintsville Tigers by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hornets have suffered since March 18th.

As for Paintsville, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-15. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For Paintsville's part, Molly Music made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Music was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Bentley Smith and Grier Collins did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Collins went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Collins has posted since back in April. Kira Ratliff was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

As of now, neither Magoffin County nor Paintsville have any future games scheduled.
