Windsor Locks is 0-10 against Coventry since April of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Raiders will head out to challenge the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. Windsor Locks is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Windsor Locks is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 4-1 to Ellington, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Windsor Locks saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Scholefield, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Scholefield is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
Meanwhile, Coventry got themselves on the board against Portland on Monday, but Portland never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Highlanders with a sharp 11-0 win. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.
Kevin Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Coventry is undefeated when he allows at most two hits, but 5-6 otherwise. Johnson was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyle Hecht, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Coventry: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Mather Spear was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Coventry hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.
Coventry has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Windsor Locks, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 8-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Windsor Locks has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Coventry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Windsor Locks suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Coventry in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
