It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Clinton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They walked away with a 12-9 win over the St. Pauls Bulldogs. Winning may never get old, but the Dark Horses sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Josh Slater made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Clinton got a big performance out of Zyhan Wallace, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base and one run. Those three hits gave Wallace a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Hall, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Clinton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.
Clinton's record is now 13-4. As for St. Pauls, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.
Coming up, Clinton will be taking part in a tournament against Pender at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in the Dark Horses' favor as the team sits on ten straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Patriots have been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road. As for St. Pauls, they have already played their next matchup, a 5-2 victory against Lumberton on the 19th.
