The Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Airport Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Gray Collegiate Academy will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
Gray Collegiate Academy's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on A.C. Flora with a sharp 10-0 win. Considering the War Eagles have won 13 games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Makenzie Sease was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Gray Collegiate Academy let Kaylan Boudreau and Aspen Boulware run wild. Boudreau went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Boulware went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Na'Veah Matthews was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Gray Collegiate Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last match, Airport made sure to put some runs up on the board against Dreher on Friday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Blue Devils. Considering the Eagles' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Avery Ingram was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Aydan Vaughn also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Gray Collegiate Academy's victory was their 27th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 runs on average over those games. As for Airport, their record now sits at 9-5.
Airport's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Gray Collegiate Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Airport, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Gray Collegiate Academy keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Gray Collegiate Academy suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Airport when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can the War Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
