Widefield has gone a perfect 10-0 against Palmer recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Gladiators will head out on the road to take on the Terrors at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Widefield has nine straight victories, Palmer has 15 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Widefield took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Pueblo Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Gladiators narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Wildcats 5-4.
Olivia McEwen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Isabella Monk was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mia Hoffpauir, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Palmer lost 17-2 to Fountain-Fort Carson on Monday.
Camila Vazquez was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Palmer's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Widefield, their victory bumped their record up to 18-2.
Palmer's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Widefield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Palmer, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Widefield keep running through batters, or will the Terrors buck the trend?
Everything went Widefield's way against Palmer when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Widefield made off with a 20-0 win. Do the Gladiators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Terrors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
