Karns City dropped their record down to 12-6 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Redbank Valley Bulldogs, falling 10-4. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Gremlins, who until this match were averaging 3.44 runs allowed.
Adam Manuel was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Manuel was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
Manuel wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Colton Christie, who went 3-for-4 with one run. Another was Tyler Kelly, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
As for Redbank Valley, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Like Karns City, Redbank Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Braylon Wagner. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Wagner was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Redbank Valley is undefeated when Wagner posts three or more hits, but 6-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Smith, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Carson Gould was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Karns City will head out to square off against Butler at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Redbank Valley, they will venture away from home to face off against Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
