Morgan has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Kopperl Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Morgan fell victim to Bynum's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 56-0 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, Morgan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Bynum is ranked 74th).
Meanwhile, Kopperl entered their tilt with Mount Calm with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Kopperl blew past Mount Calm 80-39 on the road. The result was nothing new for Kopperl, who have now won four matches by 31 points or more so far this season.
Morgan's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Iredell (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.5% over those games). As for Kopperl, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Morgan against Kopperl when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 57-12 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morgan since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
