The St. Paul Lutheran Giants's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against South Iron, falling 57-29. While losing is never fun, St. Paul Lutheran can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 450th, while South Iron is ranked 189th).
Pippa Detring and Mia Sherrill certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Detring scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Sherrill dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Sherrill is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 14 games she's played.
St. Paul Lutheran has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for South Iron, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7.
St. Paul Lutheran will be playing in front of their home fans against Crystal City at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. South Iron's road trip will continue as they head out to face West County at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th.
