On Thursday, the Cranston West Falcons faced the Barrington Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cranston West took a 60-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. Cranston West found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 20 to 9 on offense.
When it comes to explaining why Cranston West lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alyssa Robinson. Despite the final result, she went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Robinson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla Buco, who scored 12 points.
Barrington had a senior duo take command as Janaya Prince - baquero scored 25 points along with five rebounds and two steals and Madison Gill scored 22 points along with six rebounds. Prince - baquero has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Lauren Kilpatrick was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds.
Cranston West's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7. As for Barrington, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.
Cranston West will head out on the road to square off against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Rogers has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 27. As for Barrington, they will be playing at home against the Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Raphael Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
