Softball Game Preview: Willow Spring Storm vs. Middle Creek Mustangs

Willow Spring is a perfect 3-0 against Middle Creek since February of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Willow Spring Storm will be playing in front of their home fans against the Middle Creek Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in Willow Spring's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.

Willow Spring fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Harnett Central on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 15-13. The loss was the Storm's first of the season.

Georgia Miller made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 5-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Abby Howard, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Even though they lost, Willow Spring was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .388. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .388 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Middle Creek lost 17-3 to Fuquay - Varina on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Bengals: they've now lost seven in a row.

Middle Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madelyn Herndon, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Middle Creek's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Willow Spring, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Willow Spring took their win against Middle Creek when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 13-4. Does Willow Spring have another victory up their sleeve, or will Middle Creek turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
