Softball Recap: Central Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Central came into Thursday's matchup having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past the Port St. Lucie Jaguars 18-8 on Thursday. Considering the Cobras' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Central got a massive performance out of Ava Sparkman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most triples Sparkman has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Paytin Herndon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They got eight more hits than Port St. Lucie's also-impressive total of 12.

The win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 3-9. As for Port St. Lucie, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Central will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lincoln Park Academy at 4:00 p.m. on April 7. As for Port St. Lucie, they will head out on the road to take on Master's Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Jaguars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
