The Gaithersburg Trojans lost against the Walter Johnson Wildcats back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Gaithersburg was dealt a 61-19 defeat at the hands of Walter Johnson. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Gaithersburg in their matchups with Walter Johnson: they've now lost three in a row.
Leading Walter Johnson to victory were Elizabeth Martin and Kendall Alexander. Martin scored 13 points along with four steals, while Alexander scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Mira Mann, who scored six points.
Gaithersburg bumped their record down to 1-2 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.0 points per game. As for Walter Johnson, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gaithersburg will be home for the holidays to greet Quince Orchard at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Walter Johnson will be home for the holidays to greet Clarksburg at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
