The Hardaway Hawks fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Shaw Raiders on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to the Raiders. Hardaway was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Shaw apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Hardaway's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lamell Mims, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Dortch, who scored 11 points.
Hardaway bumped their record down to 10-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 1.67 points. As for Shaw, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.
Hardaway will head out on the road to challenge Bainbridge at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shaw won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Cairo at 5:30 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Cairo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
