North Schuylkill has gone 8-2 against Pine Grove recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Spartans will challenge the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with North Schuylkill sitting on six straight wins and Pine Grove on ten.
North Schuylkill's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Berwick 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Olivia Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordanna Frie, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Brigid Flynn was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
North Schuylkill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berwick only posted an OBP of .292.
Pine Grove came out on top against Northampton on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Konkrete Kids with a sharp 8-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like North Schuylkill, Pine Grove also got a great game from a two-way player: Jamie Dinger. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dinger was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.
In other batting news, Pine Grove got a massive performance out of Madison Shiffer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs Shiffer has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Callee Leffler, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
North Schuylkill pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Pine Grove, their record now sits at 15-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. North Schuylkill hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Pine Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
North Schuylkill came out on top in a nail-biter against Pine Grove in their previous meeting on April 3rd, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
