New Paltz is a perfect 5-0 against Spackenkill since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Huguenots will host the Spartans at 4:15 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
New Paltz let Rondout Valley stack six runs on them in the fifth inning on Monday but luckily New Paltz prevailed anyway. The Huguenots came out on top against the Ganders by a score of 11-8.
Lila DiSciullo was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Molly Saunders was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
New Paltz was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Spackenkill entered their tilt with Beacon on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 20-6 margin over the Bulldogs. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Addison Whitted and Cadie Hanaburgh made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Whitted tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hanaburgh tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Whitted has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Whitted went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Hanaburgh went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Whitted a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cora Polakowski was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Brandenburg, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
New Paltz's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Spackenkill, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
Spackenkill's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: New Paltz has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Spackenkill, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given New Paltz's sizable advantage in that area, the Spartans will need to find a way to close that gap.
New Paltz took their victory against Spackenkill in their previous matchup on April 14th by a conclusive 17-4 score. Will the Huguenots repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
